My Experience Towing Horses with An Electric Truck

Sometimes when I’m driving around I feel like the talk of the town: I have a Ford Lightning. From my fellow horse girls to random men at red lights, everyone wants to know whether I like my electric truck.

My answer is…mostly.

Long story short:

When the truck works, it is fantastic. When something goes wrong, parts take forever to arrive.

Long story long:

I think that electric vehicles are the future of towing. There is so much to love about the truck. (And much to hate about the time it’s in the shop — more on that later!)

After seeing the nth post on social media asking for experiences with EV towing vehicles, I thought I’d add my voice and share my personal experiences.

My Ford Lightning hooked up to a two-horse bumper pull trailer that I borrow.

It’s important to know how I use my towing vehicle. I board my horse in an extremely horse-dense area. Any given weekend, there is normally at least one show, clinic, or fun horsey happening within 90 minutes of where I board. I am using an ancient bumper-pull trailer I’m borrowing from my friend, and so far, I’ve only taken my horse and a pony, not two large horses. The trailer does have a dressing room, but it is not one of those giant side ramp warmblood size ones.
